This collection of old photos of Carlisle and its environs harks back to the days when trams, like the one on the front cover, served the town. The book includes town centre scenes such as Lowther Street, English Street, and Warwick Road, as well as more unusual subjects such as the 1970s Hilltop Motor Hotel, the old tram depot, Holme Head Works in Denton Holme, the Carlisle Steam Laundry, and long-demolished cottages at Stanwix.
