From Woofferton to Bewdley – The Tenbury Wells and Wyre Forest Line
Author : John Mair ISBN : 9780853617815 Cover : paperback Price : £15.95
Completed in 1864, the line, which ran between Woofferton and Bewdley, consisted of two conjoined railways, the Tenbury Railway and the Tenbury and Bewdley Railway, which met at a short distance to the east of Tenbury (later Tenbury Wells) Station. As well as ‘improving’ the district, the combined railways were seen as a corridor for passengers and goods to move between the Welsh Marches and the West Midlands. When a connecting line between Bewdley and Kidderminster opened in 1878, access to the Black Country was further improved.
The book comprises three chapters: a lengthy one on the history, another on the operation of the line, and a description of the route. There is also an epilogue reflecting on the line’s success (not as good as hoped), an appendix and an index.
