The book essentially covers the centre of London to include familiar places and sights such as Regent Street, Covent Garden and the Embankment but many of the photographs, which date from Victorian times to the 1950s, have not previously been published so this is every bit a book for Londoners as much as for visitors. The author’s picture captions are succinct but full of fascinating and maybe lesser-known bits of information. A section about monuments includes war memorials and thanks to an anonymous US serviceman’s album some interesting photos of London during the Second World War.
