Famous since the twelfth century for fruit growing, Newburgh has been called the Garden of Fife. A diverse community, its picturesque harbour was always busy with salmon and sprat fishing and for many years the town was a tourist resort with pleasure steamers visiting from Dundee. The ruins of Lindores Abbey, pictured in the 1930s, are still visible today although much overgrown. Included here is a picture of the huge linoleum factory, the town's main employer for many years, as in burned in the early 20th century. The factory is gone now and instead the town enjoys a pretty waterfront park.
