Stenlake Publishing - Old Dunblane

Old Dunblane

Author : Bernard Byrom
ISBN : 9781840333657
Cover : paperback
Price : £11.95

Although this book is mainly about old Dunblane (pages 1 – 30), delightful Ashfield gets three pages, Kinbuck eleven and Sheriffmuir (the inn and that stone) two. Amongst the Dunblane pictures are the High Street (several), the 1908 Royal Visit, Sinclair Street, the station, the 'Faery' Bridge, Springbank Mill, Laighills Park playground, Chucky Row, Braeport, Fourways junction & the Restaurant, the golf club, Queen Victoria School and a few more besides. Ashfield Mill dominates one of the pictures of that village and the other two date from 1928 and show Allanview and the houses in the square and 'The Cottages' and 'The Steading'. For a place the size of nothing I am amazed that we tracked down eleven pages worth of old photos. These include River Allan and 'The Cottage', the main street in 1928, the post office in 1928 , Mill Cottages, Allanbank Road, The old Kinbuck Spinning Company Mill, the new council houses in 1928, Kinbuck Station, Orwell House in its heyday as a convalescent home and finally Cromlix House and estate. If you live locally you may be able to purchase the book from Ashfield Village Hall, at Well Read in Dunblane or in the bookshops in Stirling. Otherwise availability in the shops is restricted to those few shops further afield who carry most of our Scottish range, such as William Whitie in Peebles
