Stenlake Publishing - Old Aberdour

Old Aberdour

Author : J A Kennedy
ISBN : 9781840333428
Cover : paperback
Price : £7.99

The settlements of Easter Aberdour, Wester Aberdour and the Newtown combine to form the attractive and historic village of Aberdour, much loved of day trippers to the seaside and once a holiday destination in its own right. Surprisingly the village has an industrial past, with coal shipped from its harbour until 1871 when rail transport took over. It was also once popular as a destination for Sunday visitors from Edinburgh, who in the early days arrived on pleasure steamers to enjoy alcoholic drinks on the Sabbath, the journey qualifying them as 'bona fide travellers'. Both of Aberdour's well-known beaches – the Black and White Sands – are illustrated along with countless views of historic village locations including the golf course, castle, church and public park. Other landmarks featured include the exotic interior of Kinnaird's Tea Gardens, the Hawkcraig quarries, HMS Tarlair (a naval station formerly located at Hawkcraig), the island of Inchcolm and Otterston Loch.
