Old Ollerton

Author : David Ottewell
ISBN : 9781840332032
Cover : paperback
Price : £7.50

Rural Ollerton grew to become a reasonable sized village thanks to its situation at the crossing of two important roads. As a result it developed two large inns – the White Hart and the Hop Pole. In the 1920s neighbouring New Ollerton was built to accommodate a large influx of miners as coal began to be exploited at Ollerton Colliery. The pictures in this book show both the picturesque old village and New Ollerton. Ollerton Hall, Forest House, the National School, Rufford Cottages, Rufford Abbey and even the erecting of the village's first telegraph pole are included among the pictures. There are also several attractive views showing the village's main streets and old shops.
