Stenlake Publishing Limited is a private limited company registered in Scotland. The company publishes books, mainly non-fiction as well as Scottish literature. The business was founded in 1987 and incorporated in 2004. Business is transacted with personal callers at our premises in Catrine, with various wholesale and retail book trade customers worldwide, and with private customers who may oder by post, phone, or through the company website. Stenlake Publishing publish under a number of imprints, Stenlake Publishing, Alloway Publishing and Oakwood Press.

Our Commitment to Privacy to Customers

The company is committed to protecting and respecting the privacy of its customers and the business complies with all data protection principles and requirements as set out in UK and EU legislation. Managing director Richard Stenlake is the data controller and can be contacted about any aspect of this policy.

This privacy policy has been written to reflect changes in legislation under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in force from 25th May 2018. Brexit will not affect individuals’ rights as outlined below.

This privacy statement explains the circumstances under which we collect personal information and the legal bases we rely on for processing it. Processing encompasses everything we do with personal data from its initial collection to deletion.

We shall only use the information we collect from you for the legitimate business of fulfilling orders, processing refunds, responding to enquiries and sending communications you have specifically consented to receive. We never spam and we never pass your details to a third party unless required to do so by law.

In order to process orders, by post, by phone or via our website we will need your name, billing address, delivery address for the goods and email address. You may also be asked for a contact telephone number which may be used in the event of a query or notification about your order or, very occasionally, by our delivery courier.

We process personal data in accordance with the law i.e. where the processing is necessary to allow us to pursue our legitimate business interests, such as order fulfilment and related activities, and/or with opt-in consent from customers who have indicated that they wish to receive news and updates from us.

We use trusted GDPR-compliant third party providers for the purpose of securely processing customer orders and payments.

We never sell or share mailing lists with other organisations.

For orders paid by debit or credit card in person or by phone card details are destroyed after the order has been successfully processed. Card payments for phone orders or in person are processed by Worldpay. All card payments are processed by Paypal if online. Customers online are redirected to Paypal’s website to complete their payments securely. Both Paypal and Worldpay have privacy notices to which you are referred.

Your personal information is used to process and fulfil your orders, to respond to enquiries and to send email communications that you have requested. The personal data we collect is retained for as long as is required by HMRC and then subsequently destroyed.

As a customer you have the right to access and have amended, if appropriate, any personal data that has been recorded by us. If you would like to request a copy of the data we hold about you we shall be happy to provide it upon verification of your identity.

In order to publish a living author’s book we will need your name and address. You may also be asked for a contact telephone number which may be used in the event of a query or notification about your book and an email address.

As an author or an author’s successor you have the right to access and have amended, if appropriate, any personal data that has been recorded by us. If you would like to request a copy of the data we hold about you we shall be happy to provide it upon verification of your identity.
